Based on 100% Cabernet Franc from Detert Vineyard on the southern side of To Kalon and aged 22 months in 66% new French oak, the 2023 Cabernet Franc Detert Vineyard offers an incredible, singular bouquet of red and blue fruits, tobacco, iron, and cedary herbs, with an almost bloody character that turns more floral and exotic with time in the glass. It's full-bodied, concentrated, and structured on the palate, yet also offers remarkable finesse and elegance, with fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. It reminds me slightly of a young Cheval Blanc (and I don't make that comparison lightly) and is a sensational wine that needs to be forgotten in the back of the cellar for 7-8 years, and it will cruise over the following 3 decades.
